Un trekking facile per scoprire le fortezze austriache a difesa del confine, lungo il sentiero della Pace
Fino al 1918 il Garda Trentino apparteneva all'impero austro-ungarico che, consapevole della posizione strategica di questo territorio, provvide a costruire una poderosa line difensiva, al cui centro si trova proprio il monte Brione. Oltre alle testimonianze ben visibili di quell'epoca, il Brione è oggi un'area protetta per la sua flora, tipicamente mediterranea, caratterizzata da un'elevata biodiversità.
Il Monte Brione è stato riconosciuto come Sito di Importanza Comunitaria, inserito nella rete europea di aree protette Natura 2000. Qui sono presenti oltre 500 specie, alcune tipiche delle zone montane, molte altre caratteristiche di ambienti dal clima mediterraneo, come il leccio e la ginestra. Molte di queste sono varietà rare o minacciate e alcune di esse crescono esclusivamente qui, sulle rive del Lago di Garda. In particolare, sul Brione sono segnalate più di 20 specie di orchidee.

An easy trek to explore the Austro-Hungarian border defences along the Sentiero della Pace or Peace Trail
Up until 1918 Garda Trentino belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire which, well aware of the strategic position of the area, went about constructing a serious system of defences which centred on Monte Brione. Apart from bearing visible traces of that period, Monte Brione is also a protected area because of the high level of biodiversity of its typical Mediterranean vegetation.
Brione is home to 817 species of plant, 35% of the entire flora of Trentino! Many of these are rare or endangered species and some grow here alone, on the shores of Lake Garda. In particular, there is an extraordinary variety of orchids with 26 known species. This is the reason why the top of Monte Brione is recognised as protected area.

Eine einfache Wanderung auf dem Sentiero della Pace (Friedensweg) – Auf den Spuren der österreichischen VerteidigungsanlagenBis 1918 unterstand das Garda Trentino der Österreichisch-Ungarischen Monarchie. Die Streitkräfte waren sich der strategischen Position dieses Gebiets durchaus bewusst, weshalb Sie eine gewaltige Verteidigungslinie errichteten, in deren Zentrum sich kein anderer als der Monte Brione befand. Neben den noch heute gut sichtbaren Überresten aus jener Epoche, ist der Brione heute ein wahres Naturschutzgebiet mit typisch mediterraner Flora, das durch eine enorme Artenvielfalt gekennzeichnet ist.
Der Brione beheimatet gut 817 Pflanzenarten, was 35% der gesamten Flora des Trentino ausmacht! Darunter sind viele seltene und bedrohte Arten, einige der Pflanzen wachsen ausschließlich hier, am Ufer des Gardasees. Insbesondere findet man eine außergewöhnliche Orchideenpracht – verzeichnet sind 26 verschiedene Arten. Genau aus diesem Grund wurde der Gipfel des Monte Brione als Naturschutzgebiet anerkannt.
