Campo di Brenzone, piccolo borgo appartenente al comune di Brenzone sul Garda, è uno di quei luoghi in cui storia, natura e un’atmosfera sospesa si fondono armoniosamente. Situato su un pendio a circa 200 metri sopra il livello del lago, il paese conserva un fascino autentico: case in pietra, vicoli acciottolati e la chiesa di Chiesa di San Pietro in Vincoli, che custodisce affreschi risalenti al XIV secolo, testimoniano un passato ricco di vita, oggi solo in parte percepibile.
Dalle origini al progressivo abbandono
Le origini del borgo risalgono almeno all’anno 1023, come indicano documenti storici locali e la presenza della chiesa. Per molti secoli, Campo è stato abitato da comunità dedite all’agricoltura, alla coltivazione di ulivi e vigneti e all’allevamento. A partire dalla metà del Novecento, però, l’isolamento e la difficoltà di accesso hanno portato a un progressivo spopolamento, trasformandolo in un centro quasi disabitato.
Oggi vivono qui solo poche famiglie, mentre realtà come la Fondazione Campo si impegnano nella valorizzazione del luogo, promuovendo interventi di recupero, attività artistiche e forme di turismo sostenibile.

Campo di Brenzone, a small village within the municipality of Brenzone sul Garda, is a place where history, nature, and a sense of mystery come together. Perched about 200 meters above the lake, the village feels almost frozen in time: its stone houses, narrow cobbled alleys, and the church of Chiesa di San Pietro in Vincoli — home to 14th-century frescoes — reflect a once vibrant past that now survives only in fragments.
From origins to decline
The earliest records of Campo date back to at least 1023, as shown by historical documents and the presence of the church. For centuries, the village was inhabited by families engaged in farming, olive and vineyard cultivation, and livestock raising. However, from the 1950s and 1960s onward, its remote location and difficult access led many residents to leave, gradually turning Campo into a semi-abandoned settlement.
Today, only a handful of families remain. Organizations such as the Fondazione Campo are actively working to restore the village, preserve its historical heritage, and promote it through art, craftsmanship, and sustainable tourism.

Campo di Brenzone, ein kleiner Ortsteil der Gemeinde Brenzone sul Garda, ist ein Ort, an dem sich Geschichte, Natur und eine besondere, fast geheimnisvolle Atmosphäre vereinen. Auf etwa 200 Metern über dem See gelegen, wirkt das Dorf wie aus der Zeit gefallen: Steinhäuser, enge gepflasterte Gassen und die Kirche Chiesa di San Pietro in Vincoli mit ihren Fresken aus dem 14. Jahrhundert zeugen von einer einst lebendigen Vergangenheit, die heute nur noch teilweise erhalten ist.
Von den Ursprüngen bis zur Abwanderung
Die ersten Spuren des Ortes reichen mindestens bis ins Jahr 1023 zurück, was durch historische Dokumente und die Kirche belegt ist. Über Jahrhunderte hinweg lebten hier Familien, die sich mit Landwirtschaft, Oliven- und Weinbau sowie Viehzucht beschäftigten. Ab den 1950er- und 1960er-Jahren führte jedoch die abgeschiedene Lage und die schwierige Erreichbarkeit zu einer zunehmenden Abwanderung, wodurch Campo zu einem fast verlassenen Dorf wurde.
Heute leben nur noch wenige Familien dort. Einrichtungen wie die Fondazione Campo setzen sich für die Restaurierung des Dorfes, den Erhalt seines kulturellen Erbes sowie für eine nachhaltige touristische Entwicklung ein.
