Il Museo della Carta si trova nella Valle delle Cartiere, area che per secoli è stata un importante centro di produzione della carta e che oggi rappresenta uno dei principali esempi italiani di archeologia industriale.

Il museo ha sede in un’antica cartiera restaurata e propone un percorso che illustra l’evoluzione della lavorazione della carta dal XV al XIX secolo, fino ai cambiamenti introdotti con la Rivoluzione Industriale. Nelle sale sono esposti macchinari ricostruiti, strumenti storici e materiali provenienti dagli scavi effettuati nella valle.

Oltre all’attività espositiva, il museo organizza eventi, incontri e laboratori didattici per le scuole. Con il supporto di ex cartai volontari, vengono realizzate dimostrazioni di produzione artigianale della carta, offrendo ai visitatori un’esperienza diretta per comprendere tecniche e tradizioni legate a questo antico mestiere.

The Museo della Carta is located in the Valle delle Cartiere, an area that for centuries was an important center of paper production and today represents one of Italy’s most significant examples of industrial archaeology.

The museum is housed in a restored former paper mill and offers an exhibition route illustrating the development of papermaking from the 15th to the 19th century, including the changes introduced during the Industrial Revolution. The rooms display reconstructed machinery, historical tools, and materials recovered from archaeological excavations carried out in the valley.

In addition to its permanent exhibition, the museum organizes events, meetings, and educational workshops for schools. With the support of former paper mill workers who volunteer their expertise, live demonstrations of traditional handmade paper production are offered, giving visitors a direct insight into the techniques and traditions of this historic craft.

Das Museo della Carta befindet sich in der Valle delle Cartiere, einem Gebiet, das über Jahrhunderte ein bedeutendes Zentrum der Papierherstellung war und heute zu den wichtigsten Beispielen der Industriearchäologie in Italien zählt.

Das Museum ist in einer restaurierten ehemaligen Papiermühle untergebracht und zeigt in einem Rundgang die Entwicklung der Papierherstellung vom 15. bis zum 19. Jahrhundert sowie die Veränderungen durch die Industrialisierung. In den Ausstellungsräumen sind rekonstruierte Maschinen, historische Werkzeuge und Funde aus archäologischen Ausgrabungen im Tal zu sehen.

Neben der Dauerausstellung organisiert das Museum Veranstaltungen, Treffen und pädagogische Workshops für Schulen. Mit Unterstützung ehrenamtlicher ehemaliger Papiermacher werden Vorführungen der traditionellen handwerklichen Papierherstellung angeboten, die den Besuchern einen direkten Einblick in Techniken und Traditionen dieses alten Handwerks ermöglichen.
