La Chiesa di San Pietro in Mavino è considerata l’edificio religioso più antico del territorio di Sirmione, con origini che risalgono all’VIII secolo. Sorge sul colle di Mavino, in una posizione tranquilla immersa tra gli ulivi, facilmente raggiungibile percorrendo la strada che conduce alle Grotte di Catullo.
L’atmosfera che circonda la chiesa è particolarmente suggestiva: un luogo silenzioso e raccolto, a pochi passi dal vivace centro storico di Sirmione.
All’esterno spicca il campanile in stile romanico, restaurato nel corso dell’XI secolo, mentre l’attuale struttura della chiesa venne ampliata e rinnovata nel Trecento.
L’interno custodisce preziosi affreschi medievali e una raffinata raffigurazione della Madonna con Bambino e Santi, testimonianze artistiche che raccontano la lunga storia di questo luogo sacro.

The Church of San Pietro in Mavino is considered the oldest religious building in the Sirmione area, with origins dating back to the 8th century. It stands on Mavino Hill, in a peaceful setting surrounded by olive trees, easily reachable along the road leading to the Grottoes of Catullus.
The atmosphere around the church is particularly charming: a quiet and intimate place just a short walk from the lively historic center of Sirmione.
Outside, visitors can admire the Romanesque bell tower, restored during the 11th century, while the current church structure was expanded and renovated during the 14th century.
Inside, the church preserves valuable medieval frescoes and an elegant depiction of the Madonna with Child and Saints, artistic treasures that reflect the long history of this sacred place.

Die Kirche San Pietro in Mavino gilt als das älteste religiöse Bauwerk in der Gegend von Sirmione und hat ihren Ursprung im 8. Jahrhundert. Sie befindet sich auf dem Mavino-Hügel in ruhiger Lage, umgeben von Olivenbäumen, und ist leicht über den Weg zu den Grotten des Catull erreichbar.
Die Umgebung der Kirche vermittelt eine besonders stimmungsvolle Atmosphäre: ein stiller und beschaulicher Ort, nur wenige Schritte vom lebhaften historischen Zentrum von Sirmione entfernt.
Von außen fällt vor allem der romanische Glockenturm auf, der im 11. Jahrhundert restauriert wurde, während das heutige Kirchengebäude im 14. Jahrhundert erweitert und umgebaut wurde.
