Lake Garda hides a Guinness… and almost nobody knows about it! It’s not an official Guinness World Record, but it is widely regarded as one of the shortest rivers in the world.
In Cassone di Malcesine, on the Veronese shore of Lake Garda, flows the Aril: a tiny river measuring just 175 meters (574 feet) in length.
It is known as the shortest river in the world and is one of the most unusual and fascinating places to visit on Lake Garda.
The Aril River, also known locally as the Ri, is one of the waterways that feed Lake Garda. It flows entirely through the village of Cassone, a hamlet of the municipality of Malcesine in the Province of Verona.
Along its short course, it passes beneath three bridges and forms a small waterfall. At the end of its journey, the river flows into the eastern shore of Lake Garda beside a small harbor. Nearby, visitors can also explore the Museum of Lake Cassone.
During the Christmas season, the river becomes home to a charming floating nativity scene. Larger than the river itself, the nativity stretches from one bank to the other, creating a magical holiday atmosphere.
